The “Regional Level Orientation cum Consultation Workshop of Autonomous/Territorial Council of NER on Child Rights” took place on June 29, 2022. The workshop was organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the Intellectual Forum of North East (IFNE).
The event was held at Conference Hall No.309, Administrative Staff College of Assam.The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Shri Partha Pratim Majumdar, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Social Welfare and Member Secretary of the Assam State Child Protection Society (ASCPS), delivered the welcome speech. He extended a warm welcome to the members of various Autonomous/Territorial Councils and Development Councils from the North East.
Dr. Sunita Changkakati, Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), expressed her welcome to all the delegates and members attending the workshop. Shri Jisnu Barua, Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam, addressed concerns regarding child care institutions (CCIs) and children placed in them. Shri Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson of the NCPCR, thanked the
dignitaries and participants in his address. He emphasized that the issues of the North Eastern region have been given high priority in government policies and programs. He also mentioned that the allocated budget is fully utilized for the benefit of the North Eastern region.
Mr. Kanoongo informed the participants about the efforts of the NCPCR in identifying children’s issues in various states. He mentioned that numerous complaints were received during district-level hearings conducted by the NCPCR to address children’s concerns.
