Contemporary Issues of North East

A Two-Day Orientation Program on “Contemporary Issues of North East” was held at the NIRD&PR Auditorium II, Khanapara, Guwahati, Assam on 14th and 15th September 2018.

The program aimed to address the various challenges and concerns faced by the North East region of India. The event witnessed the participation of more than 50 contestants from different organizations, colleges, and universities.
The inaugural session commenced at 10:30 am with the arrival of all the delegates and participants. The esteemed Chief Guests for the session were Dr. Mridul Hazrika, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, and Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta. Dr. Mridul Hazarika delivered a compelling speech on the issues prevalent in the North East region, setting the tone for the program.
The orientation program consisted of several informative sessions delivered by prominent speakers. Sri Ramesh Borpatro Gohain spoke about “Judiciary & Social Justice,” highlighting the role of the judiciary in ensuring social justice. Mr. Naresh Kalita addressed the audience on the “Role of Media (Print, Electronic & Social)” and shed light on its significance in the contemporary landscape.
Mr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap captivated the audience with his presentation on “NE: Unsung heroes of the Freedom Movement,” highlighting the contributions of the North East region to the freedom struggle. Dr. Sanjay Kumar presented on the topic “Is Social Science Research Useful? Selecting an appropriate Research Tool for Research,” emphasizing the importance of social science research and selecting the right tools for effective research.
Dr. Sangeeta Gogoi delivered a speech accompanied by a presentation on “Ethnic Connect with South East Asia,” exploring the ethnic connections between the North East and South East Asia. Mr. Bijoy Phangcho enlightened the audience about the North East’s contribution and export of raw materials to Asian countries.
The valedictory session of the program was conducted by Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, marking the conclusion of the two-day event. The orientation program successfully provided valuable insights into the contemporary issues faced by the North East region and facilitated meaningful discussions among participants from diverse backgrounds.
