Rehabilitation Approaches in CCIs

Consultation Meet on the state-level review of rehabilitation and counseling approaches staying in Child Care Institutions (CCI) was organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the Intellectual Forum of Northeast (IFNE). The event took place on January 30, 2020, at the Conference Hall, Nedfi Convention Centre, GS Road, Dispur, Guwahati, Assam.

The primary objective of the meet was to discuss and review the approaches followed by hostels for school children affiliated under various central and state government schemes. The esteemed dignitaries present at the event included Smt. Rupa Hazarika, Member of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Assam; Dr. Rajib Sharma, Additional Director of Health Service, Department of Health, Government of Assam; and Dr. Rupak Mazumdar, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Assam.
During the event, Dr. Rajib Sharma addressed the attendees and emphasized the crucial role of the hostel environment in shaping the minds of young children towards society. He stressed the importance of ensuring a conducive and positive environment in hostels for the well-being and development of the children.
Dr. Rupak Mazumdar, in his speech, highlighted the high school dropout rate in Assam, which is one of the highest in the nation. He identified the lack of better hostels as one of the contributing factors to this issue. By acknowledging this problem, he emphasized the need for improving the quality and availability of hostels to address the dropout rate effectively. Overall, the review cum consultation meet aimed to foster discussions and provide recommendations for enhancing rehabilitation and counseling approaches in Child Care Institutions, with a focus on improving the hostel facilities for school children in Assam.
