Workshop at CIT Kokrajhar

The District Level Workshop on Protection of Child Rights took place on March 16, 2019, in Kokrajhar organized by the Intellectual Forum of North East.

The workshop was organized by the national commission, and the theme was the protection of child rights and the state commission in joint collaboration with Intellectual Forum at CIT, Kokrajhar. The speech was inaugurated by the ADC of Kokrajhar Sri. Sanjiv Kumar Sharma. He stressed the major reason for child trafficking is illiteracy and poor people. Sri Arun Kumar Basumatary , joint secretary BTC, also joined the event.
In the first technical session, Dr. P.M.Nair, IPS, DCP, NDRF took the pledge with the audience that ‘Our children are not for sale ‘
In the second technical session Dr. Smita Changkakati , the chairperson of Assam SCPRC was commissioned in 2009. Mrs.Changkakati spoke about the state-level development in tackling child trafficking.
In the same technical session, Ms.Nidhi Sharma Kaushik, Sr . Consultant Legal & Juvenile Justice. She pointed out about child rights have been neglected compared to human rights.
In the last session, Ms. Rashmi Sharma, state coordinator of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, delivered the topic on Best practices and challenges in combating child trafficking.
Later, Mr.Rajiv Jha from Assam NCPCR elaborated on issues of trafficking. He gave the audience two important tools about the child helpline website and second, an organization for training to the panchayat for child protection in Kokrajhar.
The goal is to stop child trafficking in the forest-encroached villages in Kokrajhar.
