The Northeast Green Summit, held from November 1 to November 3, 2019, at IIT Guwahati, aimed to promote environmental protection and responsible tourism in the Northeast region of India.
The summit brought together participants and key stakeholders from state governments, the Indian and foreign private sector, Indian PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings), and international development organizations.
The summit consisted of multiple bespoke sessions focusing on the goals of the event. The core agenda of the summit included addressing the unique challenges faced in the region and proposing solutions. The underlying theme of the summit was “Green Northeast, Clean Northeast,” emphasizing the importance of preserving the region’s rich natural habitat, biodiversity, and cultural heritage. The summit built upon the success of the three previous editions held in 2016, 2017, and 2018. It served as a platform for stakeholders from various sectors to come together, deliberate, share experiences, and propose strategies to address the environmental challenges specific to the Northeast region of India.
