Workshop on child trafficking in Kokrajhar

District Level Workshop on Child Trafficking was held in Kokrajhar on January 27, 2020. The workshop was organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. It was also supported by the Intellectual Forum of Northeast (IFNE).

The event took place at the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) in Kokrajhar.
The program began with an inaugural session, which was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Sri Partha Pratim Majumdar. The dignitaries present on the stage included Shri Ajoy Kumar Dutta, Member of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights; Sri Rajen Singh, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar; Ms. Tanushree Naik, Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Science and Chairperson of the Women Cell at Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar; Ms. Malati Narzary, Chairperson of the Child Working Committee, Kokrajhar, Assam; and Sri Sudip Chakraboty, Consultant at the North East Cell, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Sri Sudip Chakraboty welcomed the guests and explained the purpose of conducting the workshop in Kokrajhar.
The program commenced with the lighting of lamps by the distinguished guests. In his address, Sri Partha Pratim Majumdar acknowledged the existence of child trafficking in Kokrajhar district. Sri Ajoy Dutta discussed the impact of child trafficking and emphasized that the economic condition of society is the root cause of this issue. Sri Rajen Singh highlighted that child trafficking is a pressing concern in the district and mentioned that Kokrajhar is one of the most affected districts in the country in terms of child trafficking.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks from Sri Rajib Dutta, a member of the Intellectual Forum of North East, Assam.
The technical session featured a speech by Srimati Tanushree Naik, Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Science and Chairperson of the Women Cell at Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar. She discussed the various initiatives undertaken by CIT to safeguard women on campus. Sri Bidyut Medhi, Secretary of DALSA, Kokrajhar, Assam, spoke about the current judicial procedures in the post- rescue phase and emphasized the importance of stakeholders being aware of the judicial process. He also mentioned the need for child victims to be brought to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for care and protection.
Sri Sudip Chakraboty, Consultant at the North East Cell, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, provided detailed information about the NCPCR and stressed the importance of having a quick response team. The technical session concluded with an interactive session involving all the participants.
