Assam Freedom and Freedom Movement

The Intellectual Forum for North East (IFNE) organized a discussion
on the topic “Assam Freedom and Freedom Movement”

Marking the occasion of India’s 72nd year of independence. The event took place at the PWD Convention Hall and Training Centre. Distinguished guests in attendance included Mr. Anup Chetia (General Secretary, ULFA), Mr. Anand Prakash Tiwari (Senior IPS Officer), Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty (HOD Bengali Department, Guwahati University), Dr. Sanjay Borborah (Dean, TISS Guwahati), and Sri Pramod Kalita (Secretary of Assam Publication Board).
The discussion commenced with a speech by Mr. Rakesh Kalita (General Secretary, IFNE), who introduced the motive of the discussion. He then handed over the floor to Mr. Sumanta Chaliha (President, IFNE). The objective of the discussion was to revive and promote the rich traditions, heritage, and culture of Assam that had been overshadowed by various crises and political conflicts.
During the open discussion, participants engaged with Mr. Pramod Kalita, a senior journalist and Secretary of Assam Publication Board, and Dr. Sanjay Borborah, the Dean of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati. The event aimed to stimulate a dialogue on Assam’s freedom struggle and its significance in shaping the region’s identity.
