Dialogue On Water Crisis In Manipur

The One-Day Policy Dialogue on Water Crisis in Manipur, focusing on issues and interventions, was held at the Banquet Hall, 1st Manipur Rifles, Imphal West, Manipur.

During the dialogue, Irengham Hemachandra Singh, the former Minister of Public Health Engineering, acknowledged that Imphal city is currently facing an acute shortage of water.
In response to this alarming situation, the state government convened a cabinet meeting on July 20, 2019, during which it was decided to urge the Union Government to declare Manipur as a drought-hit state. This declaration would enable the state to receive additional support and resources from the central government to address the water crisis.
Furthermore, a two-day national seminar on the water crisis in Manipur, with a focus on the issues and interventions required, is being proposed in Imphal, Manipur. This seminar aims to coincide with the observance of the 103rd Birth Anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, a renowned figure in Indian politics and socio- economic development.
The national seminar will serve as a platform for experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to come together and discuss the various challenges and potential solutions regarding the water crisis in Manipur. The seminar’s objective is to raise awareness, share knowledge and experiences, and propose viable interventions to mitigate the water scarcity issue in the region.
