Workshop at Dibrugarh

A District Level Workshop on the Protection of Child Rights was held at Dibrugarh University on March 22, 2019. The workshop was organized by the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the State Commission of Child Rights, and the Intellectual Forum of the Northeast.

   

The workshop began with a speech by Mrs. Pilu Hazarika from the Assam State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights. Mr. Sanjay Dutta, ADC Dibrugarh, emphasized the importance of research and analysis in understanding the chronic problem of child trafficking. Dr. Bharati Dutta, Head of the Department of Geography at DHSK College, provided a detailed explanation of the concept of child trafficking. She focused on two main purposes of child trafficking: forced labour and sexual exploitation. Mr. Satkhokai Changsan from CID spoke about the role of police and other stakeholders in combating child trafficking. Mrs. K Sunita Seshadri, Assistant Director at NIPCCD, Guwahati, gave an overview of the concept of child trafficking, its purpose, and the modus operandi of traffickers. A documentary highlighting the scenario of child trafficking in Assam was featured during the workshop. Ms. Nidhi Sharma Kaushik, Senior Consultant in Legal and Juvenile Justice at NCPCR, provided in-depth knowledge about various schemes and laws aimed at the holistic protection of children in India. Overall, the workshop aimed to address the issue of child trafficking by bringing together experts from various fields to share insights, strategies, and legal frameworks for the protection of children.
