The Intellectual Forum of North East and Gauhati University organized a State Level debate competition at the Department of Communication & Journalism, Gauhati University. The topic of the debate was “The rise of private news channels has degraded the ethical characteristics of journalism in India.”
Mr. Diganta Biswa Sarma, a renowned writer and speaker, served as the speaker for the debate. He expressed his concerns about the prevalence of yellow journalism and its focus on sensationalism for the sake of TRP ratings and advertisement revenue. The event was attended by over 100 debaters and representatives from the Intellectual Forum of North East, including Rakesh Kalita (General Secretary), Rajiv Dutta (Treasurer), and Joydeep Gupta (Member).
